Dr. Renaldo Battista, M.D., M.P.H., Sc.D., F.R.C.P. (C) is Scientific Director of the Fonds de recherche du Québec – Santé (FRQS) since July 2012.  From 2004 to 2012, he was Professor in the Department of Health Administration (DASUM) at the Université de Montréal, and since 2008, Senior Scientific Advisor of the Health Technology Assessment Unit (UETMIS) of the CHU Sainte-Justine and a member of its Research Centre.  He was on staff in the Departments of Epidemiology and Biostatistics and of Medicine at McGill from 1982 to 2003.  He was president of the Quebec Council for Health Technology Assessment (CETS) from 1994 to 2000 and President and CEO of the Quebec Agency for Health Services and Technology Assessment (AETMIS) from 2000 to 2004.

His most significant research contributions can be grouped around three headings:  integration of preventive services with clinical practice; development and implementation of clinical practice guidelines and health technology assessment.  Together they testify to a continuous and evolving interest in knowledge transfer or the creation of effective linkages between the production of scientific information and its use by health professionals, managers and decision makers.

Dr. Battista was a member of the Advisory Board of the Institute of Health Services and Policy Research of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) from 2001 to 2003.  He was appointed to the Scientific Advisory Board of Health Canada in January 2005 of which he assures the chairmanship from 2010 to 2012.  He was elected member of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences in 2006.  He held the Canada Research Chair in Health Technology Assessment (HTA) from 2005 to 2012.
